ROOM101 - THE VERY FIRST POST

DO NOT WASTE TIME READING THIS - IT EXISTS ONLY AS A TESTING PLATORM IT WILL EVENTUALLY BE DELETED - IT EXISTS TO LEARN FROM ONLY

This is the very first post of a completely new blog called ROOM101.

The blog is not being set up to compete with the existing blog (The Untrusted) run by Montana Wild Hack or to attract bloggers. That blog is lively, interesting and the place to post comment and meet people.

This place is intend to be more of an illustration of the "boiler room" which is typical of the innards of what must be working to drive that blog. Searching around here might help me/you understand what happens below decks. Like shining a torch in the engine room etc.

It's purpose is to provide a record/archive and "understanding" of how blogs in this format (ie the ones being hosted by blogger actually work). It is intended to help blogger room101d30 gain on understanding of the options available and what happens if you choose say option x instead of option y.

In so far as anyone else wants to read it they get a ready made "trial and error" type manual.

First thing that is worrying me (because I have a temperamental web connection via mobile broadband which can breakdown - and often does - mid sentence) is does this thing automatically save your work if the connection fails?

The answer to that is TBA and will hopefully be written up here:...............(in due course) (as a precaution I have already taken a copy of the above and pasted it into a word doc which I will keep on my hard disc just in case all the work is lost into the ether! (How many fucking times I have I spent half an hour or so pounding the keys only for it be lost cos I failed to save a copy!

So rule 1 keep taking copies until you understand what happens if a break in the connection occurs (copy 2 taken here)

Note also that there is a facility here to save the record as you working press the CTRl button and the letter S ( look below there are the usual italic/bold buttons and others that I do not understand like PUBLISH and DRAFT) This looks like a sensible point to press the "more" button hey that facility to change the colour of the text is great!

This is a(copy and paste of what you see if you press the blue "more" button whilst your are working at the typewriter face on "blogger"

Can I use keyboard shortcuts while posting?

Blogger has several keyboard shortcuts for use while editing posts. They definitely work in Internet Explorer 5.5+/Windows and the Mozilla family (1.6+ and Firefox 0.9+), and might work in other browsers. Here they are:

  • control + b = Bold
  • control + i = Italic
  • control + l = Blockquote (when in HTML-mode only)
  • control + z = Undo
  • control + y = Redo
  • control + shift + a = Link
  • control + shift + p = Preview
  • control + d = Save as Draft
  • control + s = Publish Post
Yes that worked. Obviously when you press that blue button you get diverted to some sort of help/explanation facility elsewhere online(my own word copy3 at this point)

At this point I can already sense that it could get tedious scrolling and copying and pasting a longish write so I ought to now find out what happens if connection failure occurs. I am going to simulate an accidental break but first I'm going to hit that "SAVE NOW" button that is on my screen as I am typing here within blogger

shit it even survives my own computer crash
